A Year in Review

When I set out on a whim to write this blog every Friday for a year I hade high hopes that I would find something worthy of writing about that had something to do with the Apocalypse every week. That did not pan out in the long run. I do not see this as a failure but rather a small apocalypse of its own. It was revealed/uncovered to me while in the weekly process that within half a year, I managed to articulate the majority of my thoughts and that between working at a summer camp and then living in Germany, I had more pressing things to focus my time and energy on than rehashing the same ideas every day for the second half of the year.

So what is the Apocalypse?

I maintain than an Apocalypse can be as big or small as a revelation/uncovering/transition. For Christian and Norse eschatology this is as big as the End of All Things and Ragnorok (which is no end, rather a renewal). For everyday life it is any event which reveals to somebody something about life — perhaps what is important or not, or how they wish to proceed in life. There are plenty of apocalyptic narratives to analyze and I would be happy to do so for anyone who asked, but I have accomplished to a satisfactory degree what I set out to do this year.
